It has also been recognized as the one of best works of Alexander Dumas. In all periods, it is frequently listed among the best novels. The Count of Monte Cristo is divided into four parts. The first part is written about the hero’s life in prison and outside jail and his gratitude of actions. The second，third and fourth parts narrate twists and turns through the hero’s revenge. The center of the story is revenge and gratitude by the excellent use of the “suspense”，“suddenness”，“drama” and other means. The narrative description of the complex relationships between the characters makes the novel full of tension and beauty. Combining with the introduction of the historical background，this paper focuses on the analysis of the complex relationships between the characters and explores deeply the economic, political and social environments that Alexander Dumas creates in the novel. The aim of the author is to bring vitality back to the classic novel from a new perspective. Key words: bourgeois revolution; social
