April 28, 2005 Strategy and Policy on China Sustainable Transportation Development International Forum (2005, Beijjing) This international forum with its focus on China sustainable transportation development strategy and policy will be held by Sustainable Transportation Task Force (TF) of China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED) in Beijing on June 28, 2005，followed by 2 days’ (June 29-30) working meeting attended by all the TF national and international experts. It will be joined by officials, concerned with this aspect, from National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), Ministry of Communications (MOC), Ministry of Construction, Ministry of Railways, General Administration of Civil Aviation of China (CAAC), Development Research Center of the State Council of China, as well as renowned transportation experts from World Bank (WB), the US, EU, Germany, and other central and local officials. ?By carrying out the project entitled “The strategy and policy for the future sustainable transportation development in China”, the TF, founded by CCICED in October, 2003, aims to provide the government with a strategy and policy framework for the future, after giving a further study on advanced international technologies and administrative measures, and to promote the implementation of successful case study in sustainable transportation, so that the need for sustainable transportation can be satisfied. The development of a sustainable transportation system will enable China to deal effectively with such key issues as traffic congestion and mobility, resource consumption, environmental protection, and rural needs. The national and international members of the TF have collaborated closely for 18 months and have developed preliminary results which?will be presented at the International Forum for comments and suggestions in order that these can be refined so as to ensure that they will represent useful and appropriate policy suggestions
