Abstract Casting is one of the most important basic industries in our country which plays an important role in the development of national economy. Casting process CAD system emerged under this atmosphere. Casting process CAD system helps process designers determine the casting solution and draw casting process. At present, most of the casting process CAD systems are secondary development based on AutoCAD platform with a long development cycle. The use of AutoCAD is limited by its version. Once upgraded, casting process CAD system based on the original version has to do the upgrade work accordingly. At the same time, due to the confidential requirements, communication between most foundry enterprises are based on paper or JPG image file, it takes them a lot of time to diagram the parts before mapping the foundry molding drawing which obviously reduces the efficiency of casting process design. This subject aims to develop a two-dimensional casting steel process CAD system based on JPG file. By importing the JPG file of design drawings into casting processing CAD system, we can directly add parting surface, machining allowance, sand core, riser, gating system and chiller on file. Through which the efficiency of process design will be greatly improved. With Microsoft VS2008 as its development tools and key technologies such as ODBC database development and interactive graphics, this topic has completed a set of casting steel processing CAD system which is relatively perfect function. Through this system the design and drawing of casting process can be facilitated and accelerated. Process designer can complete the design and drawing of parting surface, machining allowance, draft angle, core, pouring system, riser and various kinds of process symbols according to the process design flow. Relevant data involve in the design process can be directly obtained from the Access database. Above all, production efficiency is greatly improved. Key words：Casting process CAD, Two-d
