The 50 stars in the left corner represent the 50 states. The whole image seems to tell the visitors that the U.S. was created by those immigrants from all over the world, which resulted in the open and relatively harmonious atmosphere in America. “Great human migration movements” 1820-1920, 33.5million immigrants accepted The first wave of immigration 1820-1860, 5 million immigrants Most of them were from Western Europe and Northern Europe: 2 million Irish, about 1.7 million Germans A large number of them were African slaves Few of them were from Asia, mainly Chinese who were going to make fortune in America According to the official records from 1820: 1820-1880( 60years), 11,637,834 immigrants Compared with early days, the source of the immigrants changed: Germans and Irish replace English and became the largest groups.
