H owerer, entrepreneurship is not only influenced by institu tions, entrepreneurs often help shape institutions them selves. The b ilateral causal relation bewt een en trepreneurs and institutions is exam ined in th is paper. Entrepreneurs affect institutions in three w ays. Entrepreneursh ip abiding by existing institutions is occasionally disruptive enough to challenge the foundations of prevailing institutions. Entrepreneurs som etmi es have the opportunity to evade institutions, w hich tends to underm ine the effectiveness of the institu tions, or cause institutions to change for the better. Lastly, entrepreneurs can d irectly alter institutions th rough innovative political entre preneu rsh ip. K ey words: m arket entrepreneursh ip; political en trepreneursh ip; institutions
