And they are controlled intelligently through certain mechanism and corresponding terminal. Smart home system can bring lots of convenience to our life, greatly improving our quality of life. But the popularization and application of the smart home system is difficult for the season of their problems of expensive and impractical. Therefore, one of the main research of the smart home system is the design and development of it with the characteristics of low cost and easy to use. In this paper, a kind of simple and practical smart home system prototype is put forward through the analysis and research on the existing domestic and foreign smart home system, combined with the characteristics of the application of domestic demand. It divides smart home system into 3 parts, such as the control object, the centralized controller and the user terminal. The key work is to complete the software design and hardware design of the centralized controller and part of the software design of user terminal, making use of embedded system design technology. First, a stable hardware system is needed by smart home system to act as the centralized controller. So an embedded circuit with the processor of S3C2440A and other peripheral circuit, such as DM9000, is designed. Secondly, the good scalability and open source of Linux will be made full use to build the development of software environment. In this way, it lies the foundation for the realization of the operation and control function of smart home. In the development of process control software, QT which
