Unit7 It’s raining!
Language goals
In this unit students learn to talk about the weather and talk about what people are doing.
New language
How’s the weather? It’s raining/snowing rainy/snowy/windy/cloudy.
Period 1(From P31 to P32)
New words: rain, windy, cloudy, sunny, snow, weather, cook, study, how’s=how is
Structures: How’s the weather? It’s raining./snowing/rainy/snowy/cloudy/...
What are you doing? I’m watching TV.
Teaching steps:
Step1: Revision of the words about the weather
T: Write the words on the blackboard .
Step2 Presentation
This activity introduces the key vocabulary. Focus attention on the cities in the picture. Ask, what is the weather like here? Supply the word and ask the class to repeat it. Say a sentence or two about each kind of weather. E.g.: It’s raining. Is it raining here today? Then ask Ss to match each word with one of the cities in the picture.
Step3 Listening
1b Play the recording the first time. Ss only listen. Point to each city in the picture as it comes up on the tape.
Play the recording a second time. Ask Ss to write the name of the city in the picture of its weather.
Step4 Pairwork
This activity provides guided oral practice using the target language.
Point out the example conversation. Ask two Ss to read the dialogue to the class.
Ask several pairs to present their conversations to the class.

Step5 Pairwork
Ask and answer questions. Talk about the weather in the cities Using How is the weather in ...? It is rainy/snowy /cloudy/windy
Step6 Exercises
Review the drills and the new words. .Ask Ss to say the questions and answers.
Homework:1:Recite and copy the new words.
2:Talk about the weather in Chengan.
