Teaching aims and demands:
Develop the students’ reading comprehension.
Learn to write a report.
Master the words and expressions of this part.
Moral lessons:
1) Have a deeper understanding of the Chinese traditional festival, the Dragon Boat Festival and spread Chinese traditional culture.
Help the students learn to cherish the love from their family.
Teaching procedures:
Step 1 Warming up
Weekly inspiring article: Learn to Be Grateful. Start!
Step 2 Leading- in
Lead to the topic through the picture of boating and check their previous homework, an article about the Dragon Boat Festival.
Lead to the target reading material and then set a listening task to let the students have a general idea and choose the best title for it.
Step 3 Communicating and co-operating
Work in groups. Train the understanding of the detailed information by offering them a chart to fill in and make a comparison between China and the USA.
Have a thorough understanding of the article and analyze it. Help the students find out the feature of a report.
The title: A Different Dragon Boat Festival.
The lead: The words in green. T
The conclusion: The words in blue.
From the contents: 5Ws and 1 H.
Step 4 Learning and promoting
Create a situation for the students to use what they have learned and enlighten them to solve problems using English.
Step 5 Summing up and consolidating
Step 6 Homework
Homework: Write a report about the moment when you get home. Please tell us what your family are doing and how you feel at that moment.
Teaching methods:
Communicative teaching approach and situational teaching method.
