College ofM aterial Science and Engineering, Chongq ing Un iversity, Chongq ing 400044, Ch ina ) Abstract: The equilibrium s between titanium compounds and titanium in hotmetal saturated w ith carbon were investigated by oversaturation precipitation method. Expermi ental results showed that titanium con- tents balancedw ithT i( C, N) in hotmetalweremuch less than thatw ith T iC, and the solubility of titan-i um was in approx mi ately linearly direct proportion to temperature, whereas inversely proportional to nitro- gen partial pressure. There were much titanium precipitates in the bottom and side surface of crucible whereas less in inside and surface layer of hotmetal by SEM analysis of expermi ental iron samples, which show that titanium compoundswere precipitated by heterogeneous nucleation crystals and that graphitic refractory weremore in favor of heterogeneou
