2. Why do people celebrate Thanksgiving.
3. How to make a Thanksgiving turkey.
III. Teaching procedures
Step 1. Lead- in
Watch a video “ how to make Thanksgiving Day turkey”. Then answer the questions:
What kind of food are they making?
On which special day do Americans eat turkey?
Step2 While-reading
1. Fast reading
Read the article quickly and answer the following questions:
1). Read paragraph1 and answer:
When is Thanksgiving Day in the United States every year?
2) Read paragraph 2 and number the pictures[1—5]
2. Careful reading
1) Read the article again, then answer the questions:
① Where do people celebrate Thanksgiving ?
② When do people celebrate it?
③ Why do people celebrate it?
④ How do people celebrate it now?
⑤ What is the main dish of the thanksgiving meal?
2) Besides, people also have other ways to celebrate Thanksgiving Day.(show PPT to students)
3) Listen and read the article, then finish the mind map.
Step 3. Post- reading
1.put the instructions for making a turkey dinner in order.
2.Read the article more carefully and find out these important phrases.
3.Group work :
Discuss in each group :
①When is this special day?
②What are the reasons for this special day? Do people give thanks for anything or anyone on this day? Do people remember anything or anyone on this day?
③How do most people celebrate this day?
④Is there any traditional food? What are the main dishes?
⑤ Can you make these dishes?
Step 4. Summary
This lesson we learned about Thanksgiving Day in the United States. We learned to make a turkey dinner. Also ,we learned the idea of giving thanks.
