Objectives: Gestational trophoblastic disease (GTD) is among the rare human tumors that can be cured even in the presence of widespread dissemination. It encompasses a spectrum of interrelated tumors, including complete and partial hydatidiform mole, placental-site trophoblastic tumor (PSTT), invasive mole, and choriocarcinoma. The objectives of this lecture are: Understanding the differences between GTD and gestational trophoblastic neoplasia (GTN). Understanding the symptoms, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up protocol for hydatidiform mole, invasive mole and choriocarcinoma. Knowing the pathological features of hydatidiform mole, invasive mole and choriocarcinoma. Understanding the clinical significance of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) in GTD. Understanding the indication of methotrexate (MTX)-based chemotherapy for patients with choriocarcinoma. Ⅱ. Contents: General introduction of GTD: classifications, clinical features, primary therapy and prognosis. Pathological classifications: Hydatidiform mole (complete mole, partial mole), invasive mole, choriocarcinoma and PSTT. Clinical classification: premalignant vs malignant. Origins of GTD: the role of trophoblasts Hydatidiform mole: epidemiology, pathogenesis, pathological changes, symptoms and signs, diagnosis, management and follow-up protocols. GTN: epidemiology, pathological findings, clinical features, work-up, criteria for diagnosis of GTN (FIGO 2000), staging of GTN (FIGO 2000), management and follow-up protocols. Ⅲ.
