It lies in the middle of the North American continent. The US has 50 states, except for Alaska (on the northwest tip of the continent) and Hawaii (in the central Pacific), which are geographically separated from the other states, the nation is fortunate to be situated between two great oceans: the Atlantic on the east and the Pacific on the west. It is bordered by Canada on the north and by Mexico on the south. Owing to its large size and varied land-forms, it has different types of climate in different areas. Usually the climate of the north part is relatively cold . It is generally pleasant in the middle part. The south enjoys a warm climate and abundant rainfall. The US is a land rich in natural resources, especially a large deposit of iron and coal The US is the third most populous nation in the world, ranking behind only China and India.
