Analysis and Thought on Design Cases of German
Capacity Type Residences

AbstractThe capacity type residence is commonly defi ned as the residence that
produces more energy than it requires for self operation. This new type of residence
is emerged under the gross social background that European countries’ keep on
raising the building low carbon and energy saving standards. By carrying out analysis
and comparative study on historical development, design methods and several
detailed cases of the capacity residence, this paper elaborates this type of building’s
requirements to practicing capability of architects and changes brought to the aspect
of architectural design method, and it hopes that the low carbon development in China
could be enlightened thereof.
