上海交通大学硕士学位论文AB 上海交通大学硕士学位论文 ABSTRACT 第 第 II 页 Research on modern furniture design based on design for sustainability ABSTRACT Sustainable development seems to have evolved to be an inevitable choice，as the environment pollution in modern society has become increasingly serious and the requirements for environment protection and green design has received considerable public attention. Therefore, design for sustainability (DFS) is considered to be the direction and trend for the future design. It develops on the basis of green design and eco-design, moreover, it considers the environmental impacts as well as the social impacts of a product. The furniture has been acting as an indispensable implement in people’s daily life, the improvement of life standard also put forward high requests for furniture design: not only should it cover some issues such as patterns, function and required aesthetics, but also it should be attached the tag of sustainability and green design. The paper has taken the furniture design as an example to discuss DFS in the following aspects: firstly it briefly introduces DFS, and illustrates the whole process of product life based on the theory of Product Life Cycle, from material selection, design and manufacture, package and transportation, impact of use to length of life and product recycling at the end of its life. Then, two widely used environmental assessment tools-Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Eco-Indicator 99 are proposed, and a case study of a wood based furniture is raised up, which aims to describe in details how the combination of the two above-mentioned tools are applied in product environmental impact assessments. The next part is concerned with the analysis and research of modern furniture design based on sustainability, including some classic 第 第 III 页 Nordic furniture design cases.
