ABSTRACTPorcine ABSTRACT Porcine circovirus type 2(PCV2)is a recently mcognized agent that is consistently associated with post-weaning multisystemie wasting syndmme(PMWS)．To determine if the PCV2 exists in swine populations in Guangxi Zhuang Nationality Autonomous Region，South China,not only the observation ofthe sick pigs’clinical behavior and gross lesions was carried out,but also(1)techniques ofpolymerase chain reaction(PCR)，restriction endonuelease digestion and agarose gel electrophoresis were used to test the PCV2-speeific DNA from 416 tissues(1yrrlph nodes and spleens)in this paper, and(2)the enzyme·linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA)Was applied to examine the presence of antibodies to PCV2 from 1001 swine sera specimens．All swines，which the tested sera came from， were clinically normal and were not inoculated with the PCV2 vaccine．All samples described above were randomly collected from 66 pig farms of 14 regions all over Guangxi．111e two results are as follows： First,the result of PCV2一specific DNA amplification showed that the average positive rate of PCV2 Was 29．6％(123／416)．From the point of geographical distribution of positive samples，all sampling regions were positive for PCV2 apart from Qinzhou and Hechi，but the positive rates were different greatly from each otheE The lowest rate Was 9．1％(5／55)in Baise and the highest one was 46．9％(38／81)in Liuzhou，From the point ofhealth state ofpositive pigs for PCV2，the positive rate Was 84t3％(102／121)among the pigs that were similar to those pigs infected with PMWS．Some clinically normal pigs wen also tested positive for PCV2．and the positive rate Was 7．1％(21／295)． These pigs carried the PCV2 and wew dangerous to the healthy pig herds． Second，the result of detection of sera suggested that the general positive rate of antibodies to PCV2 Was 33．蝴(332／1001)．From the poh of regional distribution of positive sera,all sampling regions were positive for antibodies to PCV2，but the positive rates were obviously different a
