Therefore, once lost, a great inconvenience to people’s life will caused by it. Visual prosthesis can be stimulated by implanting electrodes in the brain and cause the optical illusion effect on people. A wealth of information is contained in an image acquisitioned by a camera, but only part of useful features can be used by visual prosthesis, so the image preprocessing is important. The embedded DSP and computer platform is always used currently. This dissertation proposed an image preprocessing IP core based on the AMBA bus interface. The difference between DSP and the IP core is processing mode on an image. While the software is used in DSP, the IP core uses a hardware approach to image processing. In this way, the requirement of real-time can be reached better. The general architecture of IP core is proposed first in this dissertation and the IP core is divided into three parts. It also introduced the I2C bus used to control the camera and AMBA bus used to transmit the processed data. Then, we discussed the principle of the three part of the IP core and designed them. It includes the camera control which contains an I2C bus controller and an I2C camera driving module to control the camera; the design to the six sub module of the pretreatment process depended on the algorithm research of the IP core and image preprocessing. The AMBA bus used in data transmission is also designed which contains the interfaces of AHB main equipment and APB slave equipment and the address and data control module.
