A theoretic basis for the thermodynamic feasibility of steel composition readjustment by chrom ium ore direct alloying in converter steelmaking process w as afforded. The results show t hat smelting reduc tion and direct alloying by chromium ore in the converter are feasible, and externally applied reducing agent is in dispensable; the start ing reduct ion temperature of Cr O in molten slag seems to increase w ith the increase of 2 3 Cr O and the slag basicity; when chromium oxide exists as CrO in t he slag, the st arting reduction temperature is 2 3 low er than that of Cr O ; the less the FeO con
