The au thors develop ed a robu st m ethod for the analysis of structu re in m athem atical exp re ssion s. A fter im age s are p roce ssed, generating recogn ition re su lts, th is m ethod analyze s the structu re of m athem atical ex p re ssion s according to syn tax ru le s and syn tactic ru le s. C la ssification in to differen t typ e s of m athem atical exp re s sion s is then m ade. Syn tax errors in the recogn ition p roce ss are checked and corrected au tom atically. The p referen tial level and the compu ting sequence s of arithm etical op eration sign s in m athem atical exp re ssion s are also au tom ati cally analyzed. Th is m ethod can be app lied
