AbstractThe Abstract The Mass Customization is a manufacturing mode which provides order product for their customers at the cost ofmass production．The development of design technology can sharply reduce the development cycle time of new product for manufacturer of machine and shorcen the time that came into the market for new product，accordingly,improve the ability of change and competition of those company．In traditional method of design，the designers own their experience of design by themselves，and share those experiences with other people without effective means．When they left，those knowledge had to gone with the wind．If we developed a product data management(PDM)system，we could resolve these difficulties． We analyzed several traditional design methods and the characters of mass customization production and raised a kind of product design technology that faced to the mass customization．The nucleus thought is that we take advantage of rule-based product configuration technology and case·based reasoning technology to improve the ability of new product design and the ability of customization development，make full use of the rich experience gathering into the production case． Based on investigating and expounding the expression and achievement of product design method of case-based reasoning，we introduced the concept of global similarity and local similarity during describing the expression method of case—similarity-based．In this report we presented the arithmetic of similarity measurement that Was based on Euclid’S—distance and described the object model and flame of arithmetic．At the same time we gave an example to explain it．In order tO lessen the search space，a concept of object property class was brought forward，SO the system user Can define the importance weight by himselfbefore the system begins to compute similarity ofmass product case． We also described the model of product configuration design．In this model we pointed out that a traditional configuration mo
