This article focuses on vector quantization image compression technology in the field of application, the key technologies are the codebook design and the codeword searching. The article first describes the development of image compression technology, the status quo and overview of the various image coding techniques. Then, through the presentation of the basic principles of image compression technology and scalar quantization, which leads to vector quantization techniques, and introduced the basic principles of the vector quantization image coding.
