Abstract
The thesis investigates the biographies of Lu Xun since the mid-1980s from the aspects of ideological content and artistic form, using the methods of comparative analysis and historical research. It summarizes the different characteristics of the writing of the biographies of Lu Xun in the 20th century and in the 21th century, explores the internal connection between them, and further studies the reasons of the evolution of the writing of the biographies of Lu Xun with the social and cultural background. By the way, when analyzing the contents of the biographies of Lu Xun in different periods, the article focuses on the construction of Lu Xun’s image in different biographies as a clue.
The body of the paper consists of three chapters: Chapter One researches the personalized writing from 1986 to 1999. Chapter Two studies the diversified expansion from 2000 to 2014. In content, the former mainly expounds the construction of the image of Lu Xun who returns to the world in the biographies of the late 20th century, and the latter analyzes the construction of the image of Lu Xun who approaches the civilians in the biographies of the early 21th century. Formally, the former introduces the serial comparison body, the book bench style and essay writing, and the double strokes with three-dimensional structure, while the latter presents the critical biography known for speculative thinking, the historical biography winning with historic materials, the pictorial biography making graphic and text closely and mutual echo, and the biographical novels combining literature with history. The third chapter compares the biographies in the early 20th century with the one in the 21th century in general, explores the inherent relationship between them, and analyzes the phenomenon of “letting a hundred schools of thought contend” but “speaking to themselves” in the new century.
