In thousands of years of evolution and social development, different historical periods, different geographical environment, the Ghost wedding has different forms in the ceremony and the respect such as type. but its fundamental character that marriage nature and also funeral nature is never changed. Marriage is the foundation of the family and the funeral is the end-result of life. The reason why that the Ghost wedding as a special form of marriage and funeral is still exist after thousands years is that the custom always has strong cultural vitality. It is fit for the generations of people’s cognitive to life, religion and social psychology. The Ghost wedding become people’s cultural bond to comfort the heart, transformation identity and seek balance. The cultural custom’s social function make it has long history and ceaselessly. In recent years, whenever the ghost wedding cause malignant cases and was reported on the newspaper, it is often II bring about a discussion about forbidden ghost marriage or not. However, the ghost wedding as an important Chinese traditional custom culture, it is people’s generation handed social habits. To some extent, the ghost marriage reflects peoples spiritual life, so custom culture is not a simple question to“ban” or “no prohibition”. In author’s view , for the generation of a cultural phenomenon and popular, the first we should do is to figure out the ghost wedding’s historical locus and its characteristics, so analyzes its social reasons of existence and prevailing, thus make clear that its social function.
