Strong Forms and Weak Forms(强式读音与弱式读音 / 强读式与弱读式) Two different ways of pronouncing an English function word: Many function words in English have two or more pronunciations: a strong form and one or more weak forms. The stress of weak forms and strong forms: Weak forms occur only in unstressed positions; strong forms are used chiefly in stressed positions and may sometimes occur in unstressed positions. An “all-strong form” pronunciation sounds unnatural and unpleasant in English.
