Halliday’s idea of transitivity generally concerns participants and processes in a clause where the identical form class may construe different meanings when the participants and the processes are not the same. Bloomfield and Sapir made various explorations on the interaction of meaning and form, but they interpreted meaning and clause from different perspectives. This paper intends to reconsider traditional conceptions, such as “agent”, “process”, “ideational category”, “meaning” in terms of transitivity system framework.
