SAP SEM Built on SAP’s “OLAP” datamart Business Information Warehouse Composed of BPS (Business Planning and Simulation), CPM (Corporate Performance Monitor), BCS (Business Consolidation), BIC (Business Information Collection) and SRM (Stakeholder Relationship Management) The fact that many of Hyperion customers are SAP customers is the proof that SAP SEM is unflexible, hard to use and unreliable SAP SEM Weaknesses Cannot be implemented unless R/3 is running and ready Hyperion BPM is flexible and open. Can be implemented in any environments “Running” Systems are only a few Hyperion BPM applications are actually used by many companies world-wide with proven ROI VERY unflexible – Cube structures NEED to match with R/3 data structure (Structures of FI/CO/MM/SD are directly used) Hyperion BPM solution is very flexible, as it is independent of ERP data structure Unreliable analytic platform with poor performance - Business Information Warehouse (BW) Hyperion Essbase is proven and reliable OLAP engine with much higher performance (MOLAP architecture) SAP SEM Weaknesses Does not support budgeting/planning process control like Hyperion Planning – Entry of final budget data only Hyperion Planning and Pillar fully supports the processes of budgeting/planning Very hard to integrate with non- SAP R/3 data: ABAP programming using BAPI is necessary Hyperion is not dependent on specific ERP and Hyperion BPM solutions are designed to integrate data from many sources Needs very long time and huge investment to implement Average implementation period of Hyperion BPM solutions is three months and the investment is much less Sales strategies and tactics against BW Go to VITO (SAP is often a Board decision) Set the agenda Push for POC Total cost of ownership (BW / EC–CS for free) Focus on value from analytic applications Engage partners (ACTA, Informatica) Use industry references Use Global Source Sales strategies and
