Key Laboratory of Land Consolidation and Rehabilitation, Ministry of Land and Resources, Beijing 100083, China) Abstract: In this paper, literature comprehensive analysis, factor analysis and K-means clustering are used to study the typical land-saving techniques and pattern of construction land. The main findings are as follows. Firstly, there are mainly three patterns of the current land-saving: time-type, space-type and plane-type, which are divided into eight sub-patterns: timing optimization, space expansion and underground development and so on. Secondly, the intensive and economical utilization of construction land are mainly planned and controlled by the time-type pattern. The land-saving pattern of timing optimization is often used for the overall land use planning, to promote scientific utilization, while the old area reconstruction pattern is also taken by most cities. Thirdly, the main influencing factors of the land-saving pattern are different in cities of different landform. Fourthly, different land-saving patterns are adopted in cities with different levels of economic development. Key words: land use; land-saving pattern; land-saving technology;
