Programme 5 Payment and Delivery Written by LinYue Leaning Objectives: Learn how to negotiate with business partners about terms of payment; Know the way to reject the customer’s unreasonable demand; Practice communicating with business partners for the first cooperation; Practice listening for specific information. In business world, not only domestic trade but also international trade has settled through payment by the buyers. However, payment in international trade is often faced many difficulties. To guarantee the punctual delivery on the part of seller and payment by the buyer, different terms of payment have been created. They can be divided into three parts: Remittance, Collection and Letter of credit. Payment by Collection and L/D are most frequently used in international trade. 目前,国际贸易中常用的付款方式( payment terms): Remittance(汇付) Collection(托收) Letter of Credit(信用证)。 大金额交易时主要是用到信用证,小买卖当然是用托收和汇付来完成。 Basic Expressions : 1. Our terms of payment are by a confirmed irrevocable letter of credit by draft at sight. 2. Since the total amount is so big and the world monetary market is rather unstable at the moment, we can not accept any terms of payment other than a Letter of Credit. Basic Expressions : 3. In order to conclude the business, I hope you’ll meet me half way. What about 50% by L/C and the balance by D/P? 4. I’d like to discuss the terms of payment with you. I wonder if you would accept D/P. Basic Expressions : 5. Since we are old friends, I suppose D/P or D/A should be adopted this time as the mode of payment. 6. We’d like you to accept D/P for this transaction and future ones. Basic Expressions : 7. We shall draw on you at 60 days sight the goods have been shipped. Please honor our draft when it falls due. 8. Your request for D/P payment has been considered and we agree to grant you this facility.
