Unit 8 Quotation and Offer The Study Purpose The Difference Between Quotation and Offer A satisfactory offer will include the followings: 1. An expression of thanks for enquiry, if any. Ex.We acknowledge receipt of your letter of 1st August enquiring for captioned commodities, for which we thank you. 2. To offer concretely, this includes the following contents: 1) The name of commodity: Ex. Peanut in Shell, 2007 Crop Ex. Handsome Brand Men’s T-Shirts 2) Quantity: Ex. 2800 dozen, colour and size assortments are as per the previous letter. 3) Specifications: Ex. Dyed, short sleeves, pure silk, long collar, full open front, one chest pocket, straight, Hawaii bottom 4) Discount: if the order is large or it is paid by cash, the seller usually gives the buyer some discount. In such case, the seller usually states the minimum amount for a certain period Ex. If your quantity is over 2,000 dozen a month, we can offer you 10% off. 5) The date of delivery or time of shipment Ex. Not later than 30th November, 2007 Ex. During January/February 2007 with partial shipment allowed. 6) Terms of payment Ex. By confirmed, irrevocable L/C payable against drafts at sight. The relative L/C must reach us 30 days ahead of the stipulated time of shipment. 7) Unit price, usually the person who offers gives the unit price. Tell the receiver what kind of price it is CIF. FOB. or CF Ex. You offered us 138.00 CIF Kobe per metric ton. 8) Total price (if necessary) Ex. 2 Model CG-101x units at US $17,850 each. CIF Shanghai. Total payable US $35 700. Ex. 395 1 500 sheets US $ 65 per sheet 369 1 500 sheets US $ 65 per sheet Total: US $ 225 000 9) Packing: Ex. Each in a polybag, half dozen to a carton and 10 dozen to a wooden case. 10) The validity period for which the offer is valid if it is a firm offer, otherwise, a remark to the effect that the offer is made without engagement.
