Commonly occurring abbreviations and symbols
Authors should supply definitions for all abbreviations and
symbols except those listed in List 2. Abbreviations of
chemicals are often more usefully defined in terms of function
(the pH indicator BCECF) rather than by giving the full
chemical name.
