I Teaching aims:
1. Knowledge objects:
1) Master the following words and phrases:used to , the words of appearance and personality.
2) Master the following sentences:
① I used to.., but now…
② didn’t use to
③ Did +S use to…….?
3) Know how to use “used to do” to talk about what people used to be.
2. Process and method objects:
Students make a brainstorm, read, listen, pair-work to practice the words and sentences to talk about what people used to be and improve their speaking and listening skills.
3. Moral objects:
Everyone may change .Encourage students to try their best to make them better and better.

1) Master the words and phrases that describe appearance and personality.
2) Use “used to” to talk about what people used to be.

VI Teaching Procedures
Step I Organization of class
1. Greeting.
2. Warming up.
Step II Presentation
Show the class some pictures and have them review the words of appearance and personality.
Practice the conversations:
A: What does he /she look like?
B: He /She has/ is….
A: What is he /she?
B: He /she is…..
2. Fill in the chart in 1a.
3. Then check the answers.
Step III New lesson
Show two photos of Chen Huilin — many years ago/ now. Ask the students some questions: What did she look like many years ago? What does she look like now?
Ask students to make sentences by using “used to…but now…”
Make presentations to describe different persons
(1) Show the students a set of pictures, such as a movie star, a sportsman, a teacher and so on.
(2) Get the students to discuss in groups and take notes, such as: Zhang Yishan
