文房四宝IntroductionThe BrushThe Chinese InkThe Paper The Chinese Ink SlabIntroductionTraditional Chinese writing tools include the brushes, the ink, the rice paper and the ink slabs. It first appeared in people’ eyes at The Northern and Southern Dynasties . They are used widely in study, therefore people praise the four objects as the four treasures of Chinese study. Till now they are famous for Lake brush, Xuan paper, Huizhou ink , and the Duan inkslab, which represent for what we say “the Four Treasures”.The BrushBrush is the traditional Chinese writing or tool , different from the quill-pen(羽毛笔） used in the western world, it has various functions in ancient China, such as painting, writing and so on.It is said that the brush was first made by Meng Tian , a famous general(将军） of Qin Dynasty . Till now , it has survived over 2200 years.In terms of the materials ,we can divide them into several sorts, such as rabbit hair ones and horsehair ones. While in the light of the quality ,we can conclude it into golden, silver, ivory, or bamboo.The Chinese InkBefore the manual ink was invented, almost everyone used natural ink or semi-natural ink as the writing material. Many pictures were made by it, for instance, the painted pottery(彩陶）.The original ink was made from pine soot(松烟）, and the ink was also named “The Pine-ink ”. It has an outstanding feature—the solid texture（纹理）, thus it can be preserved for years.With these unique writing material, ancient people created many masterpieces ,such as Xu Mo’s ink painting , Huai Su’s cursive script(草书） and Yan Zhenqing’s simple cursive（行书）.The PaperI think that everybody here wouldn’t be strange with it .
