Reason 2: With this topic, I can also share my personal experiences and understanding of career and life with you. I. Career 1. Definition A career is the pursuit of the general course of progression towards lifelong goals. A career is often composed of the jobs held, titles earned and work accomplished over a long period of time. 2. Requirements for career success Love (passion, interest) Steve Jobs says: Youve got to find what you love. The only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you havent found it yet, keep looking. Commitment It involves sacrifice and discipline to see the work through. It involves working harder than the rest. Determined It ensures that you complete your task no matter how tough; it also ensures that you achieve your long-term career goals. Concentration (devotion) Stay on track. Be focused on the job assigned and to complete it in the best possible way. A Sense of Purpose Your work is part of the process of discovering your grander purpose in life. II. Life 1. Definition Human existence (the physical, mental, and spiritual experiences), relationships, or activity in general. 2. What we pursue in life On the material level: the basic things for survival such as food and clothing, marriage, family, children, wealth, etc. On the emotional level: such as pleasure, happiness, etc. On the intellectual level: such as education, job skills, profession, academic success, etc. On the spiritual level: such as position, fame, power, success, etc. III. Career-life relations Four major types: 1. Career is life. Only a few people in this type, such as artists 2. Career dominant in life. Most professionals, such as scientists 3.
