Methods A total of 20 0 identified strains (Stap hylococcus aureus and non-Stap hylococcus aureus accounted for 50 % respectively) were tested via SPA method. Sensitivity and specificity were calculated. A total of 118 isolates collected from sputum specimens w ere tested by conventional sputum culture and SPA quick identification respectively in a double-blind way. We calculated the sensitivity and speci- ficity of each method and analyzed the correlations between the two methods. Results Both the sensitivity and specificity of SPA method were 10 0% . he sensitivity and specificity of SPA method in identifying S. aureus from sputum specimens were 100% and 97.7 % re- spectively. he results of SPA and culture methods w ere highly correlated (P 0. 05) .
