put on的用法：
(1)意为“把……放在……上”。如：
Could you please put the plate on the table?
你能把那只盘子放在桌上吗？
(2)意为“穿上；戴上”。如：
He put on his hat and went out of the office without a word.
他戴上帽子，一言不发走出了办公室。
(3)意为“上演；演出；展览”。如：
They are going to put on Harry Potter Ⅲ.
他们将上映《哈利·波特Ⅲ》。
(4)意为“增加(体重、费用等)”。如：
He has put on weight during the last two months. 他上两个月里体重增加了。
2．People go on the streets to throw water at each other.
人们到街上相互泼水。
throw作及物动词，意为“扔；投；抛”，其过去式和过去分词分别为threw, thrown。常用短语：throw at，意为“向……扔”；throw to意为“扔给……”；throw away意为“扔掉”。如：
①He caught the rope we threw to him.
他抓住了我们扔给他的绳子。
②She threw the banana peel into the trash bin.
她将香蕉皮扔进了垃圾筒。
3．He quickly laid out her favorite fruits and desserts in the garden.

lay out的用法：
(1)lay out意为“(整齐地)铺开；展开；摊开”，过去式和过去分词都是laid。out为副词，因此也可以用lay＋名词＋out。如：
My mother laid out the knives and forks at the lunchtable.
我妈妈把刀叉摆放在午餐桌上。
(2)lay out还意为“布置；设计；花费”等。如：
①You wont have to lay out so much money on the clothes for this party.
你不必为了这个晚会在衣服上花这么多钱。
②He laid out plans to give up smoking.
他制定了戒烟的计划。
4．He is mean and only thinks about himself.
他吝啬自私。
mean作形容词，意为“吝啬的；刻薄的”。如：
Dont be so mean to your little brother.

5．He warns Scrooge to change his ways if he doesnt want to end up like him.
他告诫斯克鲁奇如果不想像他一样结束的话就要改变他的方式。
(1)warn意为“警告；告诫；提醒”，常用结构如下：
1)warn sb. of/about sth.告诫某人某事。如：
I warned my grandparents about the stairs.
我提醒我的祖父母注意阶梯。
2)warn sb. (not) to do sth.告诫某人(别)做某事。如：
She warned me not to smoke in the room.
她警告我不要在房间里抽烟。
3)warn sb. against doing sth.告诫某人别做某事。如：
His mother warned him against staying out late at night.
他的母亲告诫他晚上不要在外面逗留到很晚。
4)warn sb. against sb./sth.告诫某人提防某人/某物。如：
He warned the little girl against strangers.
他告诫那个小女孩要提防陌生人。
5)warn sb.＋(that)从句，意为“告诫某人……”。如：
He warned us (that) there was a snake in front of the house.
他警告我们房子前面有一条蛇。
(2)end up意为“结束；告终”，end up with或end up doing意为“以……而结束”。如：
