Without doubt, it plays an essential role in the history of Chinese linguistics. It had been revised several times since it appeared, so its original features can hardly been found outFortunately, some scholars of Qing Dynasty took the remaining parts which were not integrated from Japan, and it provides so much convenience for the study on Yupian. The original incomplete copy of Yupian is a dictionary which has many specific properties. While Gu Ye-wang compiled and wrote this book, he explained in detail to express his opinions, and the word ‘Yewang An’ appears frequently in it. The notes of Gu Ye-wang not only reflect his views on compiling dictionary, but also embody the understandings himself of philology and scholium. According to the process plate of ‘the Original Incomplete Copy of Yupian’, and based on the achievements of the former scholars who have studied it, this article will study the notes of Gu Ye-wang carefully and deeply.
