The Nadam Congress Nadam was invented in the early period of Mongol Empire. When Genghis Khan(成吉思汗) was elected as the Mongol Khan(蒙古大汗), in order to review his troops(检阅部队), protect and distribute the grassland, he would hold a big party between July and August each year. He gathered leaders from different tribes, prayed for the friendship and harvest and held the Nadam. The Nadam congress is held every year in July or August at harvest time. The congress lasts seven days generally. The herdsmen always take many things with them, including the kumiss(奶酒), milk food, milk tea, beef, mutton and the baggage, some even come with Mongolianyurts(蒙古包). The milk tea Mongolianyurts kumiss Horse racing, archery(射箭), wrestling have been popular on the grasslands of Inner Mongolia since a long time ago which are also the major events in the Nadam congress every year. All the tribes in the neighborhood participate in the competitions. The wrestling is warmly welcomed by the Mongolian people. Like a fighter in a battle, the competitors danced to the brilliant song, bowed, and started to fight. Horse riding is the most common event on the grassland. People of all ages take part in the competitions. There are Children’s race, teenagers’ race, adults’ race and women’ race. The horse riding needs to be well prepared. They must select a good horse, feed it carefully, cultivate their feelings and practice hard. Children’s race During the long time of hunting, Mongolian people kept the ability of bowing and archery. Mongolian archery competition included short-range-archery, riding-archery, long-range-archery. It is the combination of strength and collimation. People of all age can attend the competition but they have to bring their own horses, bows and arrows in any style snd length. There are three rounds, each round can shoot three arrows.
