* In the latest HP inkjets (990, 2230/80) the printer now contains the High Performance Architecture (HPA) to further increase print performance. The important point is that the colour matching and halftoning processes have moved from tasks performed by the pc to tasks performed by the printer - this will lead to the pc being free to do other jobs much more quickly. However, this does not mean you get longer print times - the jobs are processed by an Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) - it does what is says it is! The chip (Motorola ColdFire V3 RISC processor) is specifically designed to handle print jobs (the application) and so can produce the output at high speed. So in combination this will result in faster click (on the mouse) to drop times (when the print is complete) also, if the printer is integrated in a network this would result in reduced network traffic; the sRGB data is compressed by 700:1 without losing data. Furthermore, the HPA enables smaller drivers for mobile and direct-connect devices (like PDA’s, mobile phones). * The retina is a complex nerve structure connected to the brain via the optic nerve. The retina contains millions of light sensitive cells known as rods and cones, rods are only activated in dim light and have no influence under normal viewing conditions. Cones function in daylight and contain light-sensitive chemicals called photopigments sensitive to a particular range of wavelengths (red, green or blue). The colour vision deficiency we have already referred to known as rod monochromacy is a condition where there are no cones in the retina and the sufferer is truly colour-blind. We can identify images like fruit by association of their shape or feel - pineapple, orange or apple, at this stage colour is not important, when we want to differentiate between for example one apple or pear from another then our perception of colour (red from green, blue-green or yellow-green,etc.) enables us to identify one apple or pear fro
