2008 Listeriosis Outbreak – Key facts
The 2008 listeriosis outbreak was a major food
safety incident in Canada
It was linked to the consumption of ready-to-
use meat produced by a food establishment in
Ontario.
It resulted in 57 reported illnesses and 21
deaths where listeriosis was the underlying or
contributing cause of death (nursing homes)
Those impacted were mainly elderly and living
in nursing / old age care establishments
