Chinese Ancient swords and Chemistry * * spokesman:王玉 中国古代铸剑 及化学 How to make a sword? polishing（磨光） surforming（刨锉） polishing（磨光） quenching（淬火） inlaying（镶嵌） hammerblowing（锤打） put the iron ore into the furnace and keep burning it until it melt .Then hammer it over and over again and make it into semifinished product by carburizing technology . 将铁块在炉中烧熔，经渗碳工艺制成剑坯，反复多次. hammerblowing（锤打） surform the sword with steely knivfe .make sure the sword is neither too thick nor too thin and there is a certain slope bewteen the ridge of sword and the edge of sword. The ridge of sword shall be in the middle and in a straight line. 用钢刀削锉，使剑身厚度适中，剑脊与剑刃之间呈 一 定坡度，剑脊须居剑身正中，并成一直线。 surforming（刨锉） Put the sword that has been surformed on the stone and polish it with emey cloth.The time speeding here should be twice than it speeding in hammerblowing and surforming. 将已锉之剑置于厝石上磨光。用金钢沙布裹铁尺均匀磨擦。先用粗沙布粗磨，后用细沙布细磨。磨光之工倍于锤打与刨锉。 polishing（磨光） After polishing the sword,Use steel clip to carve patterns on the sword.fill in red copper and make the sword shining via chemical treatment. 磨光后，在剑身上用钢针镂刻图案，嵌上赤铜，经化工处理，使青光剑身上呈现金色。 inlaying（镶嵌） put the hot sword into special quenching liquid in order to make the sword better. 将热的剑身放入冷的特殊淬火剂中冷却，提高剑的性能。 quenching（淬火） * * * *
