PROCESS PERFORMANCE MEASURES Process capability measures only describe the performance of a process if it is maintained in statistical control. If a process is not consistent, then Cp and Cpk will not adequately reflect process output. They will only reflect what the process is capable of producing. 12 Process Capability and Performance PERFORMANCE MEASURES Potential Performance Index (Pp) Actual Capability Index ( Pp ) Ppk = The smaller of the two values (Ppu, Ppl) 13 Process Capability and Performance EXERCISE The brix data on the next page was presented earlier. It is plotted on average and range charts. The subgroup size is three. The calculated standard deviation of all the data (s) is 0.058. The average range is 0.072. Calculate Cp, Cpk, Pp and Ppk. 14 Process Capability and Performance BRIX DATA 15 Range Average Process Capability and Performance Proportion Charts Section 8 CONCEPTS OF VARIATION: ATTRIBUTES TYPE I DATA When inspected as attributes Type I data, a unit of input, a process condition, or a unit of output will be recorded, using generic terms, as having been a “nonconforming” or a “conforming” unit. Examples: Pass
