English Pronunciation Intonation for Communication Some Basic Concepts Rhythm(节奏): The rhythm of a language is characterized by the timing pattern of successive syllables. Syllable(音节): A syllable is a word part and the basic unit of English rhythm. Stress(重读音节): In words of more than one syllable, one of them will receive more stress than the others. There are 44 phonemes(音素)in English. Among them, 20 are vowels(元音) and 24 are consonants(辅音). Among the vowels, 8 are diphthongs (双元音). Consonants: Stops(爆破辅音) /p/ /b/: 双唇紧闭，在口腔中憋一口气，然后猛地分开双唇，这是气流从口腔中冲出，发出/p/的音。如果保持气流在口腔滞留，声带微微震动，这样就发出/b/的音。 Consonants: Stops(爆破辅音) /t/ /d/: 舌尖紧贴上齿龈，憋住气，然后舌尖突然离开上齿龈，气流冲出口腔，发出爆破的音。发/t/的时候，只需送气，发/d/的时候不送气，声带振动。 Consonants: Stops(爆破辅音) /k/ /g/: 舌后部隆起紧贴软腭，憋住气，然后舌后部突然离开软腭，同时气流冲出口腔，发出爆破音。/k/只送气，声带不震动，/g/不送气，声带振动。 Exe. Consonants: Fricatives(摩擦辅音) /f/ /v/: 下唇靠里三分之一的部位去顶上齿，气流则从唇齿之间的缝隙中通过，发出摩擦音。/f/是清辅音，发音时需送气，声带不振动；/v/是浊辅音，发音时声带振动，气流较弱。 Consonants: Fricatives(摩擦辅音) /θ/ /e /: 把舌头放在双齿之间，气流从舌齿间的缝隙通过，发出摩擦音。 /θ/ 是清辅音，发该音的时候，舌尖在双齿之间的位置不变，送气强，声带不振动；/e /是浊辅音，发音时声带振动，送气弱。 Consonants: Fricatives(摩擦辅音) /s/ /z/: 舌端靠近下齿龈，气流从舌尖和齿龈之间的缝隙中通过，发出摩擦音。/s/是清辅音，发音时送气较强，声带不振动；/z/是浊辅音，发音时声带振动，送气弱。 Consonants: Fricatives
