The system consists of Sensor nodes, Routers and Coordinator. Coordinator is connected to a personal computer (PC) using USB/Ethernet. This wireless network is capable of collecting the data (Gas concentration) of monitoring sites wirelessly and sending to the PC to update the values in Control Station Software (CSS).It can give real time monitoring of potential risk area and locate the leakage point. This paper also covers the details regarding the specifications of the system developed and the choices made to achieve the specifications. The leakage detection system described in this paper not only detects the gas leakage and raise alarm but also transmits the details to a control station so that a corrective action could be evolved even if local level alarm is not attended to. There are different technology based gas sensors for detecting concentration of gas like semiconductor based sensors, catalytic sensors, infrared sensors etc. Semiconductor sensor or catalytic sensors are suitable for low cost gas detectors.
