由简单并列连词连接的并列句 2、并列连词or(或者,否则): 表示选择等意义。 The children can go with us, or they can stay in. (选择) The workers were cheerful, or at least they appeared to be cheerful. (换个说法) Be careful, or you will be late. (否定条件) 3、并列连词but(但是): 表示转折或对比意义。 He scarcely knows a word of German, but he speaks French perfectly. (转折) There is no bread in the cupboard, but there is some in the fridge. (对比) * Note: 并列连词and, or, but后常可跟also, then, therefore, otherwise, else, yet, so等副词,使前、后两个分句连接得更紧密,关系更明确。 They told me to leave it here, and (so) I did it. It’s sure I am not rich, but (then) I do not want to be rich. * 由相关并列连词连接的并列句 1、相关并列连词either…or…(或者。。。或者。。。): 表示前后两句 的内容任择其一。 Either you are mad, or I am. Either you must improve your work or I shall fire you. 2、相关并列连词neither…nor…(既不。。。也不。。。):表示前后两句的内容皆为否定(注意语序)。 Neither does he work hard, nor does his brother. Neither he nor I am wrong. * 由相关并列连词连接的并列句 3、相关并列连词not (only) …but (also) …(不仅。。。而且。。。): 强调前后两个分句的递进关系。 Not only was he himself interested in the subject, but( also) his students began to show interest in it. Not only you but also I am wrong. Not only did he write more correctly, but also he wrote faster. * 由标点符号连接的并列复合句 1、冒号(:): 后一分句表示对前一分句的解释或进一步叙述。 He works hard: he wanted to be a top student. I looked at my watch: it was nine o’clock. 2、破折号(-): 后一分句表示对前一分句的解释。 She can’t come today-she is ill. 3、分号(;): 意义相当于and,连接前、后两个语义相等的分句。 The window is broken; the door can’t close. * Note: 两个并列句不可用逗号连接,其间必须有连词或分号等。下面句中不可用逗号,应加一连词,或将其改为分号,或改为句号(改成两个各自独立的句子): He lent me two books, neither of them is easy enough for me. (错误) 应为:He lent me two books, but neither of them is easy enough for me. 或者: He lent me two books; neither of them is easy enough for me. 或者: He lent me two books.
