Hence, fault detection and diagnosis (FDD) methods for an air-conditioning system is an important area. The main purpose of FDD is, to detect, locate and if possible, predict the presence of the defects causing faulty operation. Fault detection to monitor the physical system or device and detect any abnormal conditions (problems). Fault diagnosis to evaluate the fault and determine its causes. Fault evaluation to assess the size and significance of the impact on system performance (in terms of energy, cost, etc ). Decision response to the faults (e.g., take a corrective action). 2. Methodologies and technology Recently, many artificial intelligence (AI) methodologies and technology have been applied to perform fault detection and diagnosis on HVAC system , in brief, they can be classified as follows: Rule-based expert system It is originally developed from AI, and is widely used nowadays. Model-based Models can be used to find the cause of the degradation on energy efficiency and indoor climate quality in building HVAC systems. Case-based A Library is established in which cases are saved and filed for confirmed solution and repaired cases. Although the method lacks the mathematical basis that other analytical methods provide, this method is simple, effective and useful.
