• Failure to control the airway by other means • Betadine, chlorhexidine, or similar skin sterilization
• As a temporary measure while preparing for defi nitive solution

21.2 Contraindications • Attach oxygen supply.
– Connect kit tubing to wall oxygen OR.
• Absolute – Connect 7–0 endotracheal connector to bag valve
– Transection of the trachea below the cricothyroid mask (BVM) attached to oxygen.

– Supraglottic obstruction (preventing gas exhalation)
