IFSTTAR, Laboratory of Mobility and Behaviour Psychology, France 10 11 Abstract 12 This study explores Fully Automated Driving (FAD), using a driving simulator, and focuses 13 on emergency Manual Control Recovery (MCR) performance. Previous studies showed that 14 specific skills were necessary to use automated systems. Hence, in the present study (N = 113 15 French drivers, 51% female), training is manipulated (simple vs. elaborated). How MCR is 16 performed (hands and feet are used simultaneously or not) and its impact on performance, 17 namely response time and pedals-use accuracy, are also examined. Training improved both 18 performance measures. In addition, the elaborated training group was more accurate in 19 pedals-use for the second system failure only. Response time depended also on the way 20 control was recovered (i.e. faster when hands and feet were used simultaneously) .
