Body language is one of the most powerful means of communication, often even more powerful than spoken language. People around the world show all kinds of feelings, wishes and attitudes that they might never speak aloud. We all will say ‘hello’ to others. And men in some countries like, Russia, France, they are used to kissing each other when they meet, but men in China or Australia will shake hands instead of kissing. And in other countries like American or some western countries, they like to embrace to say “hello ”. With so many cultural differences between people, We can often be wrong about each other, Not all cultures greet each other the same way . There is a story about Winston Churchill, which is showing us the same gesture means different feelings because of different culturals. Winston Churchill was a British politician known chiefly for his leadership of the United Kingdom during World War II. He always use gesture “V” in public to show the happiness of victory. Please attention, the palm is facing to others. One day, when he faced to the camera, Churchill did this gesture too, but he put his palm faced to himself, all people thought he was for celebrate the victory. But all of British were laughing…`cause in America, even in the most part of the world, the “V” means, whatever the palm faced to, victory or peace. But in British, the 1 palm faced to oneself means insulting others. French, German and others who fight with the UK are all insulted in this special way. So , not all members of a culture behave in the same way. When we are learning a language, the most important thing for us is to know the cultural of the country, or there will be many mistakes happened.
