赵矜矜 09级翻译一班 0940501007 American Beauty When I surf the Internet, I get some information about American Beauty. The American Beauty is said to be the name of a red rose. We often regard red as the presentence of desire and enthusiasm. Here, I think this film reveals the desire in the human beings’ deep heart, just as the name of the film. American Beauty is a black comedy which full of social problems-the middle class, cheating, drugs, homosexuality, peep and Lolita relationship .This film that got the 72th Academy Awards in 1999 sharp reveals American daily life .It uses a typical American middle-class family as an example ,demonstrates all kinds of cancer hidden in American society. It reflects the whole American society, every memberships society psychological status and survival reality .It reveals that American try to disguise the fear, whether this fear comes from mid-life crisis, inferiority mentality, or authority. The characters in this film are incomplete, but the role of Lester impressed me most. A family get-together at the dinner table is always supposed to be a warm scene. However, while Lester, Carolyn and Jane are sitting at the table, the room is full of a somber atmosphere. Lester is taking efforts to make a change, talking about his problem, showing his concern. However, misunderstanding and nonchalance have been so deeply rooted in the family that they are all used to look upon each other in a very critical and suspicious way. Thus, what he does can hardly make a difference. It only gives a start to more quarrels and bitterness and thus makes him feel more like a loser. In later ,he masturbation, drugs, secretly dating with her daughters classmate, anyway he did a lot of things that average people cannot understand .He seems to want to prove something to his wife and children or Angela with this short powerful release ,to prove what ?to prove his situation that once weak ,get
