Safety Analysis of the Influence of Metro Construction on Adjacent Bridge Piles* HE Haijian, LIU Weining, XIANG Yanyong & WANG Ting (School of Civil Engineering & Architecture, Beijing Jiaotong University, Beijing 100044. China) Abstract: T( constitutes a common problem that urban tunneling exerts negative influences on nearby existing structures, and if influences are excessive, die structures will be in danger. With the detailed case published in the foreign literature as the background, this paper addresses the approach for fonnulating 3?D elastic FEM models to efficiently simulate the effect of the metro tunneling on the adjacent single pile and pile group respectively, in the analysis, the interaction between (he piles and (he soil is considered? The analyses indicate that: 1) from the studies of nearby single pile, the position of the pile (ip regarding the tunnel horizontal axis and (he distance of (he pile axis from the tunnel centerline are two main factors which strongly influence the pile responses? 2) as to nearby pile group, we find (hat group effect does some positive function on the responses of pile group, and due to its influence, a high reduction of Che internal forces will be got in (he piles which are farther away from (he tunnel. 3) from (he studies of nearby single pile and pile group in a same model, we learn that Che pile cap will make some inqxjriance in reducing the responses of pile group induced by tunneling, but at (he same time, i( will increase the moment of the piles in (he group markedly. 4) piles which are more near the tunnel in the group may produce quite big axial tension, which has bad effect on pile's bearing capacity.
