引述别人的话时，一般采用两种方式：一是直接引用别人的原话，把原话放
在引号内，这被称为直接引语（direct speech;二是用自己的话加以转述，被转 述的话不放在引号内，这被称为间接引语（reported speech。间接引语在大多数 情况下是一个宾语从句。
直接引语变为间接引语时应注意四个方面的变化：
1）人称的变化。 2）时态的变化。 3）句型的变化。
4）指示代词、时间状语、地点状语及方向性动词的变化。

一、将下列直接引语转变为间接引语
“You should be more careful next t，im”e his father said to him.
His father told him that he should be more careful the next time.
“I havetnheard from my parents these day，s ” said Mary.
【答案】 Mary said that hehadntheard from her parents those days.

直接引语转变为间接引语需注意以下几点：
一、人称的变化
人称变化可以遵循 “一随主，二随宾，第三人称不更新 ”。
一“随主”。如果直接引语的主语是第一人称或被第一人称所修饰， 变为间接引 语时应与主句主语的人称保持一致
She said，“ My father will go on business tomorrow.
f She said her father would go on bus in ess the n ext day.
二“随宾 ”。若直接引语中有第二人称， 变为间接引语时应与主句中宾语的人称 保持一致。 He said to Kate， “How is your sister now？”
f He asked Kate how her sister was then.
第“三人称不更新 ”。若直接引语中有第三人称， 变为间接引语时一般不需要变 化。 Mr Smith said， “His father is a good man. ”
fMr Smith said his father was a good man.
二、时态的变化
1. 如果引述动词时态为现在时态，间接引语中的动词可以保持原来的时态。
She says， “I m from the USA and now is studying Chinese in Nanjing University. f She says she is from the USA and now is studying Chinese in Nanjing University. 2. 如果引述动词时态为过去时态，间接引语中的动词时态需要作相应的调整。 变化规则如下表：
直接引语时态间接引语时态 一般现在时一般过去时现在进行时过去进行时现在完成时过去完成时 一般过去时过去完成时过去完成时过去完成时一般将来时过去将来时
She said, “ We hope scf ”She said that they hoped s（.—般现在时 f 一般过去时） She said， “ I have lost a pen. ”
f She said that she had lost a pen.（现在完成时 f 过去完成时） She said， “ He will go to see his friend. ”
f She said that he would go to see his friend.（ —般将来时 f 过去将来时） 注：在以下几种情况下，在直接引语变为间接引语时，时态一般不变化
1）直接引语是客观真理。
“The earth moves around the sun and the moon moves around the ea，rth” the teacher told us.
f The teacher told us the earth moves around the sun and the moon moves around the earth.
2）直接引语是过去进行时。
Jack said， “Joh，n where were you going when I met you in the stree？t ”
f Jack asked John where he was going when he met him in the street.
3）直接引语中有具体的过去时间状语，
